As much as I wish it was, it’s not always about me.
Mom unexpectedly passed away yesterday afternoon. She was my most ardent supporter through my current cancer journey as well as my first occurrence in 1999. She, too, had breast cancer in 2004.
She was only 18 when I was born, so as we got older she became more of a sister-mom. She always told me I was her best friend. I will always cherish the amount of love and generosity she shared with me, my brother, her grandkids, great grandkids, great, great grandchildren and our many friends and family. She never met a stranger. She was always upbeat, funny and much younger than her years. She turned 88 in February, but I always said she was in her 80s going on 50. We emailed or called almost daily, I’m going to miss those little communications and stories about what was going on in her life. Hell, I’m going to miss everything about her for the rest of my life. I love you, Mom. Rest in peace.

Oh but Lana, it is about you. It’s about you and every single person whose life Joanne has touched! Some will feel the pain from the loss of that touch, while others will feel sadness because they know how special that touch was for they had experienced it at some point in Joanne’s life. I always enjoyed seeing her face pop up in the group when we would gather to socialize. She was like one of the gang and no one had to worry about what they said ‘because Mother was in the room.’! Joanne was a positive and delightful person who instilled that nature in you. We have much for which to thank her. You are in our hearts. B&J

I am so, so sad to hear this. I know how close you two were. Was her passing out of the blue or was she diagnosed with an illness? You have had too much loss. My heart aches for you. ❤️

it was completely unexpected and shocking. She went to emergency in the wee hours of the morning, diagnosed with Pneumonia. But she was experiencing some heart problems recently and that was that. She died at 2p peacefully with my brother at her side. Thanks for the love.

Sweet Lana,
My heart dropped when I got your message because I know how much she meant to you.
She was independent and raised you to be the same. I admired the way she lived her life believing that she could do anything she set her mind to…and she did. What a great example of living a good life. She left behind the best of herself in you and Mont. wishing you peace and love with each passing day.
I love you, Lana.

Dear, sweet Lana … my heart aches for you & for Monte. I know how close you all are. I don’t think there are many people from Newport that your mom didn’t touch in some way. She was always such a joyous, giving person, and that was contagious! You couldn’t help but be happy whenever you were around her. You have her spirit. I’m wrapping you up in a big hug right now❣ Please know that you are loved and we are all here for you .. including your sweet mom. She will is still with you every day and you can still talk to her (I talk to my dad alot!). I know there is not much I can do or say, but know I’m here for you & thinking of you. Love you❣
