I was a 19-year breast cancer survivor. On October 3, 2018 I was diagnosed with poorly differentiated carcinoma. On January 8, 2019 I began receiving weekly chemo infusions at UCSF Ida Friend Cancer Center for triple negative breast cancer (TNBC), although the cancer is not in my breast. It is in-between my pectoral major and minor muscles. I've had surgery and more chemo. It came back. I had another surgery followed by 25 radiation treatments and 11 months of oral chemo. In October 2021 another recurrence was found. My diagnosis is now inoperable Stage 4 metastatic TNBC. This blog is about the ride.

A set back

I had my meeting with Dr. Ewing on Friday. After looking at my latest MRI, Dr. Ewing is not willing to schedule surgery until the tumor in my muscle (yes, she indicated itā€™s in the muscle not simply between) has shrunk even more. She implied that if the two infusions remaining do not do it, I will need additional chemo treatments. So Iā€™m sad to say that I likely wonā€™t be done with chemoĀ on April 2nd, it could be as late asĀ April 30Ā or beyond. Iā€™ll know more after my appointment with Dr. Rugo on Tuesday.

Steve and I were both taken aback by her assessment, and are still trying to process everything. Weā€™ve been crying a lot.
