July 6, 2023. As you can assume by the title, I am still in the clinical trial. The noted slight increase in the size of the middle right lobe nodule, that seemed like a red flag, is within measurement error (possibly tenths of millimeters). Therefore, no change in my current course of treatment is indicated. My next CT scans are on August 9. By then I will have completed Cycles 9 and 10 of the study. So if there is any increase in size at that time, decisions about my future in this trial will be more evident. My blood work did show another slight increase in the CEA (carcinoembryonic antigen) numbers.
It appears something might be going on, it’s just too early to say. I remain optimistic as does my care team. No matter what the outcome, I’ve enjoyed and continue to enjoy great success. The malignant lymph node in my right pectoral muscle and the nodules in the left lung remain undetectable. That is definitely a win.
One change in my infusion premeds I’d like to share is that they are no longer giving me Benadryl. We discussed it at my appointment on Wednesday. I explained that not only does it kick my ass, I inevitably suffer from restless leg syndrome every time it is administered. At first Rugo was going to reduce the dosage, then we talked about changing to Claritin or Zyrtec. Finally she asked my research coordinator Lindy if the Benadryl was even required at this point in the study. Good news, it was only required for the first two cycles of treatment. After that, it was up to the physician to continue its use as a premed to avoid any allergic reaction from the Magrolimab. We all agreed I really didn’t need to take it at all. So it was immediately removed from my infusion premed orders. For the first time in 24 weeks, I left infusion feeling fairly clear headed with no restless leg. How about that?
On a final note, I want to thank all of you who reached out in support of my last post. It was beyond reassuring to hear from you. You are the best, and I love you.
